Eight Reasons to Go to The Pub (As If You Needed Any)

If you’ve been keeping up to date with our blog, you’ll already know that researchers at Oxford University in the UK have discovered that moderate drinking at your local pub can boost your health, thanks to the social/community benefits. Analyzing a range of data, regular pub-goers were found to be better connected to their community, have more friends and enjoy higher levels of endorphins.

As if you needed any more reasons for an excuse to head to your local, here are another eight why you should go, RIGHT NOW.

Plus, they’ll come in handy when your health nut buddy suggests you should go for a run together instead…

  1. It can make you smarter.

Admittedly, your declining performance in the tail-end of Tuesday Night Trivia night may be alcohol induced, but in the long term, a Norwegian study has shown that alcohol boosts blood flow to your brain, improving your cognitive function. Disclaimer, a liquid breakfast before morning meetings certainly does not have the same effect and is NOT a good idea. You have been warned!

  1. It can improve mobility

Scientists at the University of Sheffield found alcohol reduces joint inflammation and swelling, with the ideal dose around 10 drinking days a month. Again, moderation is key and binging on the weekend won’t cut it. Another reason to join us at Kramer’s during the week!

  1. It can improve your heart health

A pint of beer a day could help reduce the risk of having a stroke or developing cardiovascular disease, new research from Pennsylvania State University has found. A study of 80,000 adults found the natural decline in high-density lipoprotein (HDL), or “good” cholesterol, in the body was slowed by a moderate intake of alcohol. The recommendation is a pint a day though, so spread your drinks out over a few night’s this week!

  1. It can make you happier

We all know that a visit to Kramer’s puts you in a good mood, but apparently, it’s not just in the short term. Drinking with friends has been found by Scottish researchers to protect men’s mental health, as well as strengthening the bonds between buds. Beer + Buddies = Happy Life.

  1. It can get your creative juices flowing

Scientists in the States have found that two pints of beer can increase creativity. But don’t overdo it, we all know we’ll live to regret those “great” ideas we have stumbling home drunk (drunk dialing, anyone?). So stick to two pints to ensure you stay on the right side of that perilously thin line between genius and madness.

  1. It can protect your prostate

Enjoying four or more glasses of red wine a week may halve your prostate cancer risk compared to abstainers. It’s thanks to resveratrol, an antioxidant. Opt for Pinot Noir which boasts 5mg of the resveratrol per litre. And also goes nicely with our famous burger!

  1. It can help you avoid diabetes

Another benefit of having a pint a day is that the strategy (along with a healthy diet and exercise) has been found to reduce your chances of developing type-2 diabetes. Spanish scientists attribute these benefits to the happy cocktail of vitamins, folic acid, iron, and protein found in Homer’s favourite drink.

  1. It can improve your recovery time

Head down to Kramer’s for a well-earned drink after a workout because a post-workout drink can do wonders for your strength training. Apparently, the carbs in alcohol counter the stress hormone cortisol, which floods your system after a gym session and hinders muscle repair. Plus, your biceps get yet another workout lifting the glass.

So, see you guys at the bar tonight?
